Creating My First Lyric Video: “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”

Creating My First Lyric Video: “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”

For my first video assignment, I was tasked with creating a lyric video which is something I’ve always admired but never tried myself. What I didn’t expect was just how many small challenges I’d encounter along the way!

At first, I struggled to find a song or video I could actually download. Even with YouTube Premium, I ran into issues getting the files I needed for the project. Eventually, I remembered that I had a free download of one of my all-time favorite songs, “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell. That solved my problem and gave me the perfect soundtrack to work with.

I imported the song into iMovie and headed to Pexels.com, a site that offers free stock videos. I selected several clips that matched the upbeat, soulful energy of the song and then cut and pasted them together to create a kind of mini music video. Following my professor’s instructions, I added an introduction at the beginning and created closing credits at the end.

The next (and most time-consuming) part was syncing the lyrics. Even though I could easily find the words online, I had to carefully time each line so it matched the vocals perfectly. This required listening to the song over and over, but it also helped me appreciate the rhythm and emotion behind every lyric.

When I finally finished, I was really happy with the final product. Not only did it look and sound great, but I also gained a new appreciation for the amount of work that goes into making lyric videos. Now I understand why people enjoy creating and sharing them online because it’s a creative process that blends music, visuals, and storytelling in such a fun and rewarding way.h
